Leveraging community expertise to strengthen learning relationships beyond the classroom

The Community Learning Project (CLP) represents a dynamic and forward-thinking initiative of the Nevada Future of Learning Network. Its mission was to expand educational awareness and opportunities by partnering with local businesses, civic organizations, and cultural institutions to demonstrate how community expertise can build the bridges of possibility from the status quo to a more collaborative and connected future of learning ecosystem.

By fostering collaboration between educators and community stakeholders, the CLP brought academic knowledge to life in real-world settings.

Through its initial Stakeholder Discovery phase, the project identified diverse collaborators, followed by the development of a robust program framework. A public call for partner proposals in December 2023 marked the beginning of an exciting journey to connect classrooms with community-based learning experiences, resulting in 20 strategic partnerships that shaped the initiative through events, digital outreach, and media engagement by mid-2024.

The CLP has offered Nevadans a broad spectrum of learning experiences, touching fields like science, engineering, social justice, performing arts, and media production. Overcoming challenges along the way, the initiative demonstrated the power of creativity and adaptability in education.

Each partnership not only advanced organizational goals, but also inspired personal growth and community impact. By embodying the Portrait’s core values of empowerment, connection, and impact, the CLP has created lasting benefits for both individual learners and the broader Nevada community, setting the stage for future collaborations that continue to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application.
