Amplify ME (Music & Expression)
There's Nothing to Do in Vegas (NTDLV) introduced learners to musical concepts and learn how to create their own compositions, addressing critical thinking, community collaboration, project based learning, and belonging.
Digital music production brings music education into the 21st century. Students still need to learn and understand music theory, and they can now do this from a different, modern lens. Digital music production allows students to create their own music, fulfilling the need to create and express themselves. Through workshops and instruction in basic music theory, students not only learned technical skills but also developed a deeper understanding of the artistry behind music composition. Participating students were given access to a healthy place to express emotions, learn valuable social skills, respect for creatives, and create something that lasts forever. The emphasis on collaboration encouraged them to explore their individual artistic voices while contributing to a larger, collective artistic vision.
What is the connection between this outreach project and the principles of the portrait?
Students explored their own ideas freely
The give and take of creative feedback strengthened interpersonal skills
Creating works that can be shared with others increased a sense of purpose and community
Once audio production skills are learned they are useful forever in the digital age as a jobskill
"It was inspiring to see students' interest in creating music deepen as their knowledge deepened. It's surprising every single time how creative students are and what they come up with when they have the proper tools to execute their vision."
